A generic, out-of-the-box AI that hasn't been customized or trained will always be a bad example, and not one I would recommend for such a task. However, AI allows for customization that most people don't realize or maybe understand. That's one of the points I was trying to make here, is that in the right hands with the right people who understand how to make it be more human-like in its responses, it can be an amazing, empathetic companion. (And, as mentioned, it can also be trained to actually engage in CBT techniques if you wanted it to. There's nothing magical about psychotherapeutic skills and exercises.)
